Since an early age I have been enamoured with acting. My first real experience came at age 10, playing an innkeeper as part of a junior production of the Good Samaritan. I was absolutely terrible but it lit something in me that has only grown stronger in the preceding years.
With my original career of “Rock Star”, performance and acting have always gone hand in hand with my musical work. Acting has been the secret stalker that lurks in the shadows of all my creative endeavours.
In 2005 I was ecstatic to combine both loves of music and acting upon being cast as a member of the Disney production, Mulch, Sweat and Shears. A family band disguised as the landscaping crew who sneaks into the disney parks, drops stage, and proceeds to melt the faces of the unsuspecting crowd with rock and roll! I was cast as dark brooding bass player “Hedge Shears”. Being able to play to and interact with the crowd in character was an acting delight.
In 2010, while still a member of Disney's Mulch, Sweat and Shears, my dreams doubled down and I was cast as a member of the Blue Man Group at Universal Studios.
After my run at Disney ended in 2015 I joined the band The Spazmatics as the lovable - goofball - bass player “Gary.” Still pulling double duty with Blue Man Group.
While being hard work I was living my dreams, while also able to provide for and be there for my family. I couldn't of hoped for anything better, then it all came to a crashing halt when the pandemic struck the world. Blue Man closed up in 2021 and all the cast was let go. The amusement parks went on hold and live music was few and far between.
In recent months I have had the opportunity to pivot to voice over, voice acting, podcast production and remote shows. Which has been a blessing in these times but now I’m chomping at the bit to get out there and perform for crowd and camera.
So, Whether a friend, fan, or future employer, I can’t wait to see you out there in the world of Rock and Roll and Make Believe! ~James W.
